Bernice Ellen Proudfoot, age 95, of Hudson, died Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility. She was born July 29, 1910, in Liberty Center, Ohio, to William and Cora (Hales) Spiess. She graduated from Liberty Center High School in 1928. She was married to Homer Proudfoot in June 1928. He preceded her in death in April 1966. Bernice had been employed by the Dawson Nursing Home for over 20 years. She was a member of the Gold Star Mothers Club.
Bernice is survived by four sons. Jack Proudfoot and his wife, Linda, of Bakersfield, California, Jerry Proudfoot and his wife, Mary Sue, of Hudson, Neil Proudfoot of Rollin and Richard Proudfoot and his wife, Melissa, of Hudson; a daughter, Colleen Stauffer and her husband, Jack, of Eckerman, Michigan; 19 grandchildren and severed great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Homer; she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Patricia Higgins; one brother, Frank Spiess and a sister, Wanda Watkins.
At Bernice’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation. Burial of cremains will be in Young’s Cemetery in Liberty Center, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian.
