Claude A. Pollard, son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bowers, was killed instantly when his car hit an abutment near Richfield, Utah, last Friday.
His wife, Marthanna, and 7-year-old son, Larry, received serious injuries and are in the hospital at Richfield. Their 13-months-old baby was unhurt.
The Pollards were returning to their home in Montibella, Calif., after visiting Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bowers, former Liberty residents, at Clayton, Mich. The car was reported to be completely demolished but the cause of the accident was not determined.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Walter's funeral home and friends may call at the funeral parlor any time after Saturday morning. Services will be held in the Methodist church at 2 p.m. Sunday, with burial in Young's cemetery.
Obituary
Claud Arthur. Pollard, son of James Arthur and Etta Bilbro Pollard, was born July 16, 1916, at Iuka, Ill., and lost his life in an automobile accident at Junction, Utah, on Aug. 26, 1949, at the age of 33 years, one month and ten days.
He had served in the United States Navy and at the times of death was in the Naval Reserve.
He was united in marriage with Marthanna May Bowers on March 25, 1945. He was employed at the Helms Bakery at Montebello, Calif, and their home was at that place.
He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, two sons, Larry Wayne and Claud Arthur Jr.; his father, three brothers arid five sisters, all of Illinois; father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bowers, and other relatives and a host of friends.
Services were held from the Walter funeral home and the Methodist church Sunday at 2 p.m. with Rev. David L. Eichar officiating. Burial was in Young's cemetery with the local American Legion and VFW participating with the firing salute and presentation of the flag. They also served as pall bearers and carried the colors.
