Vergil K. Ort, 86, of Bowling Green died Saturday at his home.
Born June 12, 1908, in Defiance, he was the son of Alva R. and Amelia (Bauer) Ort. On Nov . 1, 1941, he married Lorrene Love, who survives.
He was a retired professor emeritus and associate dean of the college of Education at Bowling Green State University. He was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church, the Kiwanis Club, Kappa Delta Phi, Phi Delta Kappa and the American Heart Association. He was an honorary alumnus at B.G.S.U. and had served in the B.G.S.U. Senate and the Scholarly Advancement and Parking committees. He taught for Napoleon Public Schools in the 1930s, serving as principal for the elementary and junior high from 1945-51. He served in the U.S. Navy and was superintendent of schools on American Somoa for two years.
Also surviving are a brother, Morris R.; and two sisters, Marjorie Fynewever and LaVanche Glanz.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Dunn Funeral Home in Bowling Green, Rev. Edward Walden officiating. Interment will follow at Youngs Cemetery in Liberty Center.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
