George J. Murray, 80, passed away Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Grace Mowery, with whom he had been residing.
A lifelong resident of this area, Mr. Murray served as custodian for the Liberty Center Schools for 32 years. He was a member of the Liberty Center Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Modern Woodmen of Ohio.
He was born in Washington Township on Aug. 31, 1879.
Surviving are his daughter, Grace; two stepdaughters, Mrs. C. M. Saul and Mrs. Edna Foster, of Toledo; a sister, Mrs. Emma Woodward, of Liberty Center; two grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and 20 step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Walter Funeral Home in Liberty Center on Friday at 2 p.m. Rev. B. C. Krugh will officiate and burial will be in Young’s Cemetery. Liberty Center firemen will serve as pallbearers.

George J. Murray was born Aug. 31, 1879, in Washington Township, Henry County, O., and was called from this life on Tuesday morning, Feb. 2, at 12:50 a.m. at the age of 80 years, five months and two days.
Mr. Murray enjoyed very good health until near the closing of his life, and was one who enjoyed life with the blessedness of his aging.
His entire life was spent in his home in Liberty Center, residing in the same home on Maple St. about 54 years.
He was united in marriage to Myrtle Batdorf on June 29, 1901, with whom he lived happily for 47 years, prior to Mrs. Murray's passing on April 3, 1951. Their home was blessed with two daughters, one of which was called from this life at the age of four years.
George served his community in the public school as a custodian for 32 years, which he enjoyed until the time of his retirement in 1945.
He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and an honorary member of the Libery Center Volunteer Fire Department.
Among the bereaved are: the daughter, Mrs. Grace Mowery, of Liberty Center, with whom he lived; also two step-daughters, Mrs. C. M. Saul and Mrs. Edna Foster, both of Toledo; one sister, Mrs. Emma Woodward, of Liberty Center; two granddaughters, eight step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and 20 step-great-grandchildren.
George will be remembered as a loving father and a blessed grandfather, a loyal citizen, a wonderful neighbor, and one who was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Services were held on Friday, Feb. 5. 1960, at the Walter’s Funeral Home in Liberty Center, with the Rev, B. C. Krugh officiating. Interment was in Young’s Cemetery, Liberty Center.
