Thomas Ray Murdock, beloved son of Charles R. and Gertrude Whiteman Murdock, was born March 19, 1945, and died Oct. 11, 1964, at the age of 19 years, 6 months and 22 days. He had resided for these 19 all-too-brief years at the family residence at Bonnell’s Corner in Liberty Township.
He was a mentber of the Liberty Chapel EUB Church, having joined the church at the tender age of 9 years.
He was a member of the Liberty Center Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
He leaves to mourn his passing his parents; one grandmother, Mrs. Earl Murdock; two brothers, Richard C. and Herbert W.; two nephews and three nieces, and many other relatives, close friends, and neighbors.
Tom, or ‘Hermi,’ as he was known to his many friends, graduated at Liberty Center High School with honors in the Class of 1963. He served in his senior year as president of the Liberty Center Chapter of the Future Farmers of America.
He was a member of the chapter’s Parliamentary Procedure team all four years, and was awarded the Star Farmer award in his senior year.
He played on the school’s basketball team all four years, and on the baseball team during his junior and senior years.
After graduation he attended Ohio State University, but returned home to work on the family farm. He was a tiller of the soil by his own choice and enjoyed the life of a farm boy. No one could know Tom, be with him and work with him, without sensing that here was a fine lad - intelligent, honest, pleasant, industrious and generous of his time. His wide circle of friends will miss that ready smile and friendly wave of his hand. He possessed a kindly disposition, commanding the affection and respect of those who knew him.
