Gertrude E. Murdock, 80, Road V, Liberty Center, died Friday afternoon at her residence.
Born in Liberty Center on March 6, 1907, she was the daughter of Herbert and Stella (Bonnell) Whiteman. On Sept. 20, 1930, she married Charles Murdock in the Methodist parsonage of Wauseon, and he survives.
She attended Ohio Northern University and graduated in 1960 from The Defiance College. A fifth and sixth grade teacher for two years at Fulton Centralized School, Ai. She also taught second grade at Liberty Center School District for 20 years, retiring in 1974. A member of Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church, she held memberships at Liberty Center Rebekah Lodge, Wauseon D.A.R. and Retired Teachers Association.
Surviving besides her husband are two sons, Herbert of Liberty Center and Richard of Grand Rapids; one sister, Helen L. Whiteman of Liberty Center; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Thomas in 1964, and two sisters, Norma McClarren in 1974 and Marjorie W. Whiteman in 1986.
Services were held today at 1:30 p.m. in Liberty Chapel, Rev. Marvin Schamaun officiating. Interment was at Youngs Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
