Philip C. Mires, 87, of Napoleon died Monday morning at Fulton County Health Center, Wauseon.
Born June 9, 1916, in Liberty Center, he was the son of Eugene and Leona (Conley) Mires. On Aug. 11, 1956, married Shirlee Landversicht, who survives.
He was an industrial art and art teacher at Holgate High School for more than 30 years, retiring in 1977. He owned and operated Mires Sign of Napoleon for more than 50 years. He was a graduate of Bowling Green State University. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Napoleon, the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Henry County Retired Teachers Association, American Legion Post #300 in Napoleon and a former member of the Liberty Center Chapter of the Masonic Lodge. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is also survived by four sons, Brent (Danyelle) Leiter of Leo, Ind., Marc (Cyndy) of Seffner, Fla., Jeff (Sheila) of Millersville, Md., and Joel (Deborah) of Napoleon; a sister, Gertrude Overmeier of Bradenton, Fla.; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Mires; a brother, Wilson; and a sister, Marjorie Spiess.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Rev. Alan Schwochow officiating. Interment will be made at Youngs Cemetery, Liberty Center, where military rites will be accorded by joint veteran posts of Napoleon.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Walker Mortuary, Napoleon.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Liberty Center Public Library, Emanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
