Horace C. Mead, 68, Napoleon, died Monday at 6 p.m. at Quality Care Nursing Home, Holgate. He had been in failing health for several months.
Born in Grelton on June 28, 1915, he was the son of Clyde and Catherine (March) Mead. In 1943, he married Delila Crawford, and she preceded him in death in 1960. He married Lucy Downard in 1962, and she died in 1969. In 1972, he married Iris Reynolds, and she survives.
Also surviving are three stepsons, Melvin Downard, of Delphos; George Downard, of Liberty Center, and Robert Elder, of Morgan City, Louisiana; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Phyliss) Weber, Tiffin, and Mrs. Joe (Barbara) Ortan, of Portland, Oregon; two brothers, Wally, of Warren, Oregon, and Fred, of Rutherfordton, North Carolina; three sisters, Mrs. Bernice Smith, of Bowling Green; Mrs. Edward (Edith) Spengler, of Napoleon, and Mrs. Roger (Mary Jane) Brown, of Carlisle, Iowa; 22 grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Mead was a retired employee of the Ohio State Highway Department at Bowling Green, having worked there for 17 years. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of Sharon United Methodist Church, Harrison Gleaners and McClure American Legion Post 332.
Services will be held Thursday, 1:30 p.m., at Rodenberger Funeral Home in McClure. The Reverend Edward Beal will officiate, and burial will be in Youngs Cemetery, Liberty Center.
Friends may call after 7 p.m. tonight and all day Wednesday at the mortuary. The family suggests any memorials be made to the church or the Henry County Cancer Society.
