Roy Davis McGary, Sr. May 14, 1915 - March 6, 2002
Roy Davis McGary Sr., 86, of Liberty Center died Wednesday evening at Toledo Hospital.
Born May 14, 1915, in Central City, Ky., he was the son of Robert and Sarah (Wetherford) McGary. On Feb. 20, 1941, he married Lucille Murdock, who survives.
He was an employee at Fred Christen and Sons, A. H. Lumm Co., and Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #6 of Toledo. He also farmed and worked at Crawford Orchards after retirement. He was a member of the Liberty Center United Methodist Church, Liberty Center Lodge #528 F. and A.M. for 60 years, Royal Arch Masons, Zenobia Shrine, Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo, Oddfellows Lodge of Texas, Fulton County Sportsman Club.
He is also survived by a son, Roy ‘Butch’ McGary Jr. of Put-In-Bay; three daughters, Colleen Martinez of Liberty Center, Claudia Funkhouser of Tacoma, Wash., and Catherine Gentry of Granger, Ind.; a brother, Raleigh McGary of Newburgh, Ind.; five sisters, Kathleen Summers of Tavares, Fla., Sarah Lee, Mary McGary, Patricia Clark and Connie Callis, all of Boonville, Ind.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and eight step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Roscoe; four brothers, Roosevelt, Ralph, Robert "Frank" and Richard; and a sister, Nellie McGary.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Liberty Center United Methodist Church, Pastor David MacDonald officiating. Interment will be at Youngs Cemetery, Liberty Center.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Saturday at Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center, where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Liberty Center United Methodist Church, Liberty Center Fire and Rescue or to a charity of the donor's choice.
