Lawrence S. Matthews, 63, of Route 2, Liberty Center, died early Sunday morning at Toledo Hospital.
He was born September 27, 1914, in Liberty Center, the son of Frank and Lola (Blair) Smith.
The deceased was a farmer and was currently serving as chairman of the Washington Township Trustees. He was a member of Liberty Center United Methodist Church. He served on the Liberty Center School Board of Education from January 1, 1948, through December, 1959. He drove school bus for the Liberty Center School system for over ten years. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post #492 of Liberty Center, the Henry County Regional Planning Commission and the non-certificated Ohio Association of Public School Employees (O.A.P. S.E.). He was a board member of the Liberty Center Elevator Association. He was a member of the Odd Fellows I.O.O.F. Lodge #409, Texas, and the Napoleon Municipal Golf Club.
Surviving are his wife, Caroline; two sons, Robert and James, both of Liberty Center; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Jean) Richardson, Seattle, Washington; one niece, Mrs. Daniel (Cecile) Chambers, Liberty Center. One brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, Napoleon. Officiating will be Reverend McClellan Nicholson.
Interment will be made in Youngs Cemetery, Liberty Center.
