Caroline S. Matthews, 88, of Liberty Center died Monday afternoon at The Lutheran Home at Napoleon.
Born Aug. 10, 1913, in Piqua, she was the daughter of Cloyce and Abby (Rye) Showman. On June 16, 1941, she married Lawrence Matthews, who preceded her in death May 14, 1978.
She was a teacher at Liberty Center Local Schools for more than 13 years. She was a member of the Liberty Center United Methodist Church, Liberty Center United Methodist Women, Union Rebekah Lodge #273, Liberty Center, and Ohio State Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by two sons, Robert and James, both of Liberty Center; two brothers, Bert Showman of Liberty Center and Austin Showman of Worthington; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, John Showman.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center, Rev. David MacDonald officiating. Interment will be at Youngs Cemetery, Liberty Center.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials be made to Liberty Center United Methodist Church or Liberty Center-Washington Township Fire Department.
