Albert Gellatin Matthews, son of Albert C. and Mary Ann Matthews, was born in Wellsburg, Pa., Oct. 28, 1847 and departed this life at his home in Liberty Center, O, September 23, 1915, aged 67 years, 11 months and 1 day.
Deceased moved with his parents from Pennsylvania to Wood county, Ohio, at the age of three years, and there he resided until the close of the Civil War when he removed to Liberty Center, in which place and vicinity he has resided until his death.
Mr. Matthews was united in marriage with Helen Woodward May 9, 1871, and to this union was born one son, Guy E. Matthews, who now resides on the farm near Liberty Center.
Mr. Matthews was a member of Co. B, 144th O. V. I., was a charter member of Liberty Center Lodge No 518 F. & A. M., a member of Haley Chapter No 126 R. A. M., of Defiance Commandery No. 30 K. T., also of Pacific Chapter No 63 Order of Eastern Stars.
Deceased was a patient sufferer and bore jis afflictions with much patience, and nearing the close of life, while he desired to get well, he was reconciled to the Lord’s will. He was converted in early life and during his illness, he renewed his faith in the Lord; and said he was prepared to go and passed peacefully away in the triumph of living faith.
Mr. Matthews was a good citizen, a kind and indulgent husband and father. A faithful wife and son survive to mourn their loss, with many distant relatives and friends. Our loss is his eternal gain.
The funeral services were held at the home in Liberty Center at 2 p.m.,Sunday, October 3rd, con ducted by Rev. M. Gray of Craigsville, Ind. in the presence of sympathizing friends and relatives. After the sermon Blue Lodge 518 Masons performed their last sad rites at the house and the grave. Interment was made in Young’s cemetery, there to await the resurrection morn.
