Services Held for Wayne Liddle, Injured Fatally by Falling Tree
Services were held Tuesday afternoon for Wayne Liddle, 64. Rt. 1. Liberty Center, who was injured fatally by a falling tree Friday afternoon.
Liddle and three other men were cutting trees on the Barney Kokenge farm four miles east of here, to build a new barn for Mr. Kokenge.
The falling tree split, and knocked Mr. Liddle down. He suffered a fractured leg and internal injuries.
Wayne Miller, Charles Krueger and Philip Jennings were working nearby and rushed to his aid. Walters ambulance service was called and he was rushed to Heller Memorial Hospital in Napoleon.
He was pronounced dead upon arrival. Dr. Wilson J. Stough, coroner, said Mr. Liddle died of a hemorrhage.
A carpenter, Mr. Liddle was very active in sportsmen circles and was instrumental in building a clubhouse for the newly organized Sportsmen’s Club.
He was an agent for the County Mutual Insurance Co. and served several times as a trustee of Washington Township.
He also was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge at Texas, O.
Surviving are his wife, Ethel; daughter Mrs. Wayne Miller, and one grandchild.
Burial was in Young’s Cemetery, Liberty Center, with Rev. David L. Eichar officiating. Walter’s Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Obituary:
Robert Wayne Liddle, son of the late John and Elizabeth Heinircks Liddle, was born in Washington Township, Henry County, O., on May 12, 1893.
Mr. Liddle met with an accident on Nov. 9 while cutting timber on the Barney Kokenge farm east of Liberty Center. Death came as a result of the accident when a tree that was being cut split and came backwards to where Mr. Liddle was crossing a log.
On Jan. 20, 1917 he was united in marriage with Ethel Mohler, and to this union was born one daughter, Treva.
Mr. Liddle was a member of the IOOF Lodge of Texas, O., an agent for the Henry County Mutual (Farmers) Insurance Co., and the Gleaner Lodge of Liberty Center.
Surviving are the following: the companion and and daughter, Mrs. Wayne Miller of Washington Township; one grandson, Bobby Miller; brothers, Walter and Ray, of Liberty Center; John C. of Napoleon; sisters, Mrs. Emma Wolff and Mrs. Florence Wolff, of Oakwood, O.; Mrs. Mary Wittes and Mrs. Vallie Wittes of Watcrville, O.; Mrs. Agnes Dietrich of Napoleon, and other relatives and friends.
Services were conducted from the Methodist Church in Liberty Center with Rev. David L. Eichar officiating on Nov. 13 at 2 p.m., with the R. H. Walter Funeral Home in charge. Burial was in Young’s Cemetery.
