Jerome Craig Lawrence, son of Martin P. and Cora (Custed) Lawrence, was born on Feb. 24, 1876, and departed this life at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 20 days. He was born in Defiance county, O., and death came to him at the home of his son, Fred, in York township, Fulton county, O.
On April 19, 1892, he was united in marriage with Ada Shelt, and to this union were born ten children, seven boys and three girls. Three sons and one daughter preceded their father in death.
He spent most of his life in Harrison township in Henry county and for the past ten years had made his home with his son, Fred.
Mr. Lawrence had been in the usual state of health for a person of his age and death came as a surprise. He had eaten his evening meal and had gone out-of-doors when death came as a release to age and affliction with which so often we in this life are confronted.
Those who survive are the widow, Ada, to whom he had been married for over 60 years; four sons, Ross, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Fred, of Wauseon, O.; Walter (Jack), of Harrison township; Donald, of Liberty Center; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Helen) Phillips, of Risingsun, O.; Mrs. Herbert (Treva) Lammon, of Wauseon; eighteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one brother, Fred, of El Cajon, Calif.; one sister, Stella Lockamier, of Pleasant Lake, Ind., and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the Boyer-Walker mortuary in Napoleon, with the Rev. David L. Eichar of the Liberty Center Methodist church officiating. Interment was in Young’s cemetery, Liberty Center.
