John Knoll, the son of the late Martin and Sarah Hawk Knoll, was born in Defiance county on March 1, 1877, and departed this life after an extended illness at his home on Rt. 24, Oct. 9, 1961, having attained the age of 74 years, 7 months and 8 days.
On Sept. 4, 1904, he was united in marriage with Blanche Carpenter, and to this union were born five children, all of whom survive.
He is the last of a family of fourteen children. A lover of God’s great outdoors, ever enjoying the scenic beauties of the Maumee River across from his home. Prior to moving to the present home they had spent several years in Defiance county; then moved to Washington township in Henry county.
He had been affiliated with the Lutheran church and the IOOF lodge of Defiance before coming to this vicinity where his family grew to adulthood.
Surviving, beidses the above-named companion, are the children: Henry and Roland of Napoleon; John, of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; Mrs. Imelda Baker and Mrs. Mary Creager, of Napoleon; five grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

John Knoll, 74, retired farmer, died at 4 a.m. Tuesday morning at his home in Liberty township. He is survived by his wife, Blanche; three sons, Henry and Rolland of Napoleon, and John, of Ft. Wayne; two daughters, Mrs. Imelda Baker, Mrs. Mary Creager, of Napoleon, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Wesche funeral home in Napoleon with the Rev. David Eichar officiating. Interment will be in Young’s cemetery.
