He enlisted in the U. S. service at Norwalk, O., Sept. 1, 1861, and served the full term of his enlistment, when he reenlisted and continued to the close of the war.
Deceased was joined in marriage with Esther A. Woodward Sept. 26, 1865, at Liberty Center, Ohio, and to them were born a daughter, Sophronia, now Mrs. Beachler, of Liberty Center, and two sons, A. I., of Tiffin, O., and Ira C. of Wauseon, O. He also had a foster daughter, Mrs. Myrle Spake, of Grand Rapids, Mich. To these children have been born five children.
Mr. Karschner was confirmed in the Reformed Church at Republic, O., at the age of fifteen and was transferred as a charter member of St. John’s Reformed church at Liberty Center in 1868. He was a consistent member, often holding responsible official relations in the church which duties he faithfully performed.
Deceased enjoyed fairly good health until about seven years ago, when he was stricken with paralysis, since which time he has gradually failed in health, and on August 22, 1915, he answered the final summons to come up higher and enter into the joy of his Lord, at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 21 days. Had he lived until Sept. 26th he would have celebrated with his devoted wife their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
Funeral services were conducted at the Reformed church by the I. O. O. F. and his pastor, Rev. D. E. Martz, Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 24th. Interment in Young’s cemetery.
