Orra Austin Keith, of Liberty Center, retired president of the former Liberty State Savings Bank in Liberty Center, died Saturday, March 8 In Heartland of Wauseon Nursing Home, Wauseon. He was 90.
Mr. Keith was first employed by the Liberty State Savings Bank as a teller and moved to the Whitehouse State Savings Bank as assistant cashier and then cashier. After serving In the Army from Oct. 20, 1943 to Oct. 23, 1945, he went to work at the Delta Peoples Bank. In 1948 he returned to the Liberty State Savings Bank, where he was executive vice-president and then president, retiring In 1977.
He was a member of the Liberty Center VFW and the Liberty Center United Methodist Church.
Mr. Keith was an avid baseball player and enjoyed playing and teaching the sport to young children. Mr. Keith was also known in the area for his singing.
He was born March 6, 1907 in Delta, the son of Clark A. and Lowell Elizabeth (Osgood) Keith. He married Alice V. Jennings on Aug. 25, 1928 and she died Dec. 6 1987. In 1988 he married Grace Griesinger and she died April 2, 1993. He married Sylvia Charlene Warren on Sept. 18, 1993, and she survives.
Also surviving are stepsons, Michael Warren, and Clayton Warren, both of Delta; a stepdaughter, Diane Kahle, of Largo, Fla.; seven step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Harold and Carlton Keith and sisters, Florence Bundy, and Doris Keith.
Services were held Wednesday, March 12 In the Wright funeral Home, Liberty Center, with Rev. Martin Denes, of the Liberty Center United Methodist Church and Rev. John Brown, of Victory Missionary Baptist Church, Monclova, officiating. Interment was in Youngs Cemetery Liberty Center where military services were conducted by the VFW.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Liberty Center United Methodist Church or the Liberty Center Rescue Squad.
