Lawrence H. Johnson, 83, of Toledo and formerly of Liberty Center and Bowling Green, died Thursday at St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee.
Born May 16, 1909, in Hamler, he was the son of Charles E. and Hattie (Creager) Johnson. On June 9, 1936, he married Florence Finch who preceded him in death on Aug. 29, 1989.
He was an assembly line worker at Toledo Jeep for 31 years when he retired in 1971. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Toledo and a former member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Napoleon. He was a World War II Army veteran and member of the Liberty Center V.F.W. where he was its first commander in 1946.
Surviving are four sisters, Mary Thomson of Spring Lake, Mich., Julia Marquis of Garden City, Mich., Gladys Cook of San Diego and Joyce Williams of Bowling Green; two brothers, George Johnson of Liberty Center and Paul Johnson of Hiwasse, Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Johnson.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine, Father Fred Duschl officiating. Interment will follow in Youngs Cemetery in Liberty Center. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the V.F.W.
Visitation will be Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home in Liberty Center. Scripture service will be at 8 p.m. on Sunday.
The family suggests memorials be made to St. Augustine Catholic Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
