Bert Arthur, son of Allen Austin and Rachael E. Jennings, was born Nov. 1, 1878, in Damascus township, near McClure, Ohio. His early life was spent on the farm. He moved to Liberty township, in January 1914. In 1920 he entered the business life of Liberty Center. In the spring of 1921 the family moved to this village where they have been identified with the progress and welfare of the community throughout the years since that date. Mr. Jennings was united in marriage to Miss Clara Graner, September 30, 1900. To this union five children were born: Vernon A., Mildred D. Parker, of Toledo; Mrs. Alice Keith, Whitehouse; Bryan and Aubrey of Liberty Center.
Many years ago, Mr. Jennings united with the Olive Branch United Brethren Church. When that church was disbanded, his membership was moved to McClure. He possessed a practical sense of religious truth. His life convictions were more than mere mental assents. He was the possesor of those qualities which mark individuals as worthy to be emulated. For some time past Mr. Jennings had not the best of health. Medical attention failed to restore and his soul passed on to his Maker, July 27, 1937. His stay among men was 58 years, 8 months and 28 days. There remain to mourn his going, his wife, the five children, two grandchildren, one brother Ralph, McClure, and one sister, Mrs. Edith Basset of Mutual, Oklahoma. His parents and brother Archie preceded him in death. Services were conducted from the Methodist Church, Friday afternoon. Rev. Piper, officiating. Interment was made in Young’s cemetery.
