Paul Harold James, 97, of Liberty Center died Monday at Golden Living-Northcrest, Napoleon.
Born Sept. 25, 1909, in Waverly, Ohio, he was the son of James W. and Grace F. (Volmer) James. On Feb. 10, 1932, he married Maudie Kathryn Mitchell, who preceded him in death March 29, 2003.
He was retired from Babcock Plumbing and Heating in Napoleon. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a Purple Heart recipient for being wounded on April 20, 1945, in Italy. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and Gilbert-Baughman American Legion Post #492, both in Liberty Center.
He is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Spiess of Liberty Center, Pauline (William) Biddle of Johnstown and Alyce (Harold) Spiegel of Blissfield, MI.; three sons, James (Virginia) of Napoleon, David of Las Vegas and Paul R. (Debbie) of Liberty Center; 15 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Susanna James; three sisters, Leona Helmson, Dorothy Babcock and Edna Mohler; three brothers, Waldo, Beryl and Russell; and a grandchild.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Liberty Center, Rev. Jeffery Stone officiating. Military rites and interment will follow at Youngs Cemetery, Liberty Center.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Liberty Center.
