Maudie Kathryn James Jan. 1, 1913 - March 29, 2003
Maudie Kathryn James, 90, of Liberty Center, died Saturday evening at Northcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Napoleon.
Born Jan. 1, 1913, in Napoleon, she was the daughter of Werdna and Carrie (Edwards) Mitchell. On Feb. 10, 1932, she married Paul James, who survives.
She was a telephone operator at Liberty Center, a clerk at McClure's Grocery Store, Liberty Center, and worked at Johns-Manville at Waterville. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Liberty Center, and the Gilbert-Baughman Post #492 of the American Legion Auxiliary, Liberty Center.
She is also survived by three daughters, Carolyn Spiess of Liberty Center, Pauline Biddle of Johnstown, Ohio, and Alyce Spiegel of Blissfield, Mich.; three sons, James of Napoleon, David of Las Vegas and Paul of Liberty Center; a sister, Bina Spitler of Napoleon; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy James; a grandchild; and four brothers, Emmett, Paul, Guy and Stanley Mitchell.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pastor Richard Behnke officiating. Interment will follow at Youngs Cemetery, Liberty Center.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center, with an American Legion Auxiliary service at 7 p.m.
The family suggests memorials be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or American Legion Auxiliary.
