Helen Louella Whiteman, 98, of Liberty Center, died Saturday, March 4 in the home of her great-niece, Carole Murdock, of Liberty Center, who had cared for her the last eight years.
She was born Aug. 24, 1901 in Liberty Center, the daughter of Herbert Lincoln, and Margaret Estelle (Bonnell) Whiteman.
She graduated from Ohio Northern University, Ada and was a school teacher for Liberty Center Schools for 13 years. She then worked in the U.S. Department of Labor and U.S. Treasury Dept. in Washington. D.C. until her retirement in 1963. Following her retirement she returned to live on the family farm in Liberty Center.
Miss Whiteman was a member of the Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church, Liberty Center, the Retired Teachers' Association, and the Henry County Farm Bureau.
Surviving are, a niece, Margaret Ann White, of Houston, Tx.; nephews, Robert McClarren, of Chicago, Ill, Richard Murdock, of McClure, and Herbert Murdock, of Liberty Center; many great-nieces and nephews; and many great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters. Norma McClarren, Marjorie W. Whiteman, and Gertrude Murdock.
Services were held Tuesday, March 7 in the Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church, Liberty Center, with Rev. Lynn J. Huffman officiating. Interment was in Youngs Cemetery, Liberty Center.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Liberty Chapel United Methodist Church or Hospice of Henry County.
