Dr. C. W. Hales, 76, of Wilmington, Ohio, died Tuesday at Manor Care Nursing Facility in Cincinnati.
Born Aug. 18, 1921, in Liberty Center, he was the son of Fred and Rebecca (Eddy) Hales.
He received his bachelor of arts and medical doctor degrees from Ohip State University in 1946. Hte practiced medicine in Columbus and Wilmington and was the county coroner of Clinton County for 16 years. He was certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, was a member of the American Medical Association, Ohio State Medical Association, American Association of Pediatrics, Ohio State Coroners Association, Central Ohio Pediatric Society and the Clinton County Medical Society. He was also a member of the Liberty Center F & AM #518.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Hale; three sons, Thomas and Stephen, both of Columbus, and William of Cincinnati; a stepson, Richard Bassler of Columbus; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Bassler off Wilmington; former wife, Ruth Hales of Columbus; and a grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph; a half-brother, Earl Spencer; and a half-sister, Aelia Spencer.
Visitation will be at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home of Wilmington on Saturday from 5-8 p.m. Interment will be at the convenience of the family on Monday at Youngs Cemetery in Liberty Center.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Clinton County Branch of the American Heart Association, Clinton Memorial Hospital Foundation or the National Kidney Foundation of Ohio.
