Mrs. D. E. Haag Dies Very Suddenly of Heart Failure
Our citizens were greatly shocked by the sudden death of Mrs. (Dr.) D. E. Haag, which occurred about 8:30 Tuesday morning, the cause of death being heart failure. Mrs. Haag had been subject to palpitation, but for the past few months it has not troubled her and her general health had been better them for several years. Tuesday morning she arose and prepared breakfast as usual and ate with the doctor and their grandson. After breakfast the doctor went to the barn to do his chores and when he returned Mrs. Haag complained of numbness in her hands and arms and said her heart was giving her trouble again. The doctor advised her to take a dose of the tablets kept in the house for her attacks, which she did and soon went about her morning work saying she felt much better. Dr. Haag and his grandson, Eldon H. Young, sat in the living room and talked for a while. The doctor went out in front and talked to the men working on the street, for a few minutes, and then went to his office. About 20 minutes after the doctor had left the house Mrs. W. W. Young, a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Haag, living next door, saw her mother come to the kitchen door and fall. She hastened to her relief and sent Eldon for the doctor. Eldon found Dr. H. P. Hague first and told him of his grandmother’s illness. Dr. H. P. hastened to the home but when he reached his mother’s side she was dead.
Mrs. Haag was in her 79th year, and her death was the first to occur in the family. Besides her husband she leaves two daughters, Mrs. C. A. Clifton and Mrs. W. W. Young, and one son, Dr. H. P. Hague, all residing at this place.
Funeral services will be held at the residence this (Thursday) morning at 10 o‘clock, Rev. S. C. Barron officiating. Interment in Young’s Cemetery.
Mrs. Haag‘s maiden name was Martha Singhaus. She was born January 6, 1835, and was therefore at the time of her death age 78 years, 5 months and 4 days. She was married to Daniel Eldon Haag June 23, 1853, and to the union were born the three children above-mentioned.
