J. W. ("Chess") Foncannon died at his home in this place Monday evening at 6 o’clock of apoplexy. Although Mr. Foncanon had been in ill health for several years, his death came suddenly and unexpectedly, he being around town nearly every day and was on the street Mohday.
Deceased was born near Tiffin, O., August 23, 1851, and was therefore 71 years, 2 months and 27 days old. His parents moved from Seneca Co. to a farm near Liberty Center when J. W. was a mere boy and in this vicinity he grew to manhood. He was engaged in the drygoods business in Liberty Centet for a number of years and went from here to Bloomville, Ohio, where he engaged in the furniture, business, 27 years ago. He went from Bloomville to Toledo five years ago and engaged in the grocery business. Failing health made it necessary for him to retire from active business and he and his wife returned to Liberty Center about a year ago. His wife and one daughter survive him.
Mr. Fortcanon was a highly respected citizen and enjoyed the confidence and esteem of all who knew him. He was of a genial, jovial disposition and always had a smile and a pleasant word for the old friends he met as he went about the streets of his old home town, though at times he must have beep a great sufferer.
Private funeral services will be held at the home today (Thursday) at 2 o'clock, and interment will be made in Young's cemetery.
