George U. Foncanon was born on a farm near Liberty Center, O., September 27, 1854, and departed | tills life September 6, 1918, aged 83 years, 11 months and 9 days.
He was educated in the Liberty Center schools, and as a young man was in the employ of the Western Union as a telegraph operator at this place. Afterwards he engaged in the dry goods business and later in the drug business, which profession he followed until about two years ago when failing health obliged him to sell his store and engage in outdoor work, buying a little farm on the edge of town. But the change did not bring the desired relief and he continued to fail.
Mr. Foncanon was highly respected by all with whom he came in contact. He was a home man, a home lover, and it is said that perfect harmony existed in the home. He was kind, loving and loyal to the woman whom God gave him to wife. Both he and his wife were great lovers of children, but none came to bless the home. He possessed as many sterling qualities as will be found in the average man—and more.
He and his wife united with the Reformed church many years ago, and he was also a member of the P. & A. M. Lodge of Liberty Center and of the Chapter at Napoleon. All his life, from birth until death, he was a resident of this vicinity, and he will be greatly missed.
Deceased was united in marriage with Harriet Pray, of Whitehouse, Nov. 1, 1876. The wife, one sister, three brothers and many other relatives and friends are left to mourn their loss.
Funeral services were held from his late residence in Liberty Center, under the auspices of the F. & A. M , Rev. D. E. Martz pastor of St. John’s Reformed church officiating. Interment in Young’s cemetery.
