George Jacob Fahringer was born in Lehigh county, Pa., Nov. 23, 1849, and died at his home in Liberty Center, Ohio, July 14, 1918, aged 68 years, 7 months and 21 days.
He was baptized April 18, 1850, and was confirmed in the Ziegler Reformed church, in Lehigh Co., Penn., March 17, 1860.
He was united in marriage with Elizabeth Alice Zimmerman Nov. 2, 1872. This union was blessed with ten children; six sons and four daughters, Cyrus, Albert,and Edward of Napoleon, William, of Windsor, Can., Mrs. Wm. Barton, of Deshler, Mrs. Ralph Mohler, of Liberty Center, Mrs. Hattie Grove and Miss Erma, both at home, John and Richard both of whom have preceded their parents to the life beyond, wife and mother having also gone to her final rest a short three months ago.
Mr. Fahringer became identified with the I. O. O F. of Liberty Center July 23, 1891 and retained an honored membership throughout the remainder of his life, serving the various offices of the order, and was a faithful attendant until failing health hindered him from doing so.
He was also a member of the Encampment.
Mr. Fahringer may be classed as one of the pioneers of Northwestern Ohio, coming with his family to Henry county in 1876, and by his energy, economy and good business tact helped turn the wilderness into a beautiful garden, providing well for his large family the material things of life, and attained a prominent citizenship in his home town.
He leaves to mourn, four sons, four daughters, 53 grandchildren, two sisters, two brothers, and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral was conducted from the Reformed church in Liberty Center by the pastor, D. E. Martz, Tuesday, July 16. The I. O O. F. was largely represented and participated in the service.
