Lida (Hoffman) Estepp, was born in Henry County, Ohio, March 19, 1860. There she grew to womanhood and there the greater part of her life was spent. On the 14th day of October 1897 she was united in marriage to John Estepp, of Kosciusko County, Ind., and in so doing assumed not only the duties and responsibilities of wifehood, but also of motherhood to two young motherless boys, and now this husband and these boys, now grown to manhood rise up and say: “She has borne these responsibilities and performed these duties faithfully and well.” She departed this life Sept. 21, 1912, at the age of 52 years, 6 months and 5 days. Her demise came suddenly and unexpectedly and fell as a heavy stroke upon all her many friends but is full of triumph and victory to her. About 14 yeas ago she enthroned with her heart the Lord Jesus, the great giver of life, since which time, it can be truthfully said of her: “her life was hid with Christ in God.” She, at the time of her conversion, together with her husband, united with the Church of God at Mt. Tabor, near their home, and toward this church as toward her Lord, her life has truly been an exemplary one.
Many who knew her slightly say Mrs. Estepp seemed like a very good woman; we who knew her better say truthfully that Sister Estepp was all she seemed.
Truly our loss is great, but Oh! It is Sister Estepp’s eternal triumph. Let us therefore rejoice and be exceeding glad, for so it hath seemed good in the sight of our Lord.
Besides the bereft husband and two step-sons, Walter and Willie, and daughter-in-law, Walter’s wife, she is survived by two brothers and three sisters and a great many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the late home Saturday morning, Sep. 28, conducted by Rev. J. E. McColley of the Church of God in the presence of a large concourse of people.
She was brought to Liberty Center Saturday evening and Sunday at 3 p.m. Rev. W. H. Baker, of McClure preached a funeral discourse at the M. E. church to a large congregation of her friends and relatives, after which the remains were deposited in the beautiful Young’s cemetery to await the resurrection morning.
