Liberty Center man enjoyed carpentry
LIBERTY CENTER - Earl L. Ernsberger, a retired heavy-equipment operator and an army veteran of World War II, died of cancer Tuesday in Medical College Hospital, Toledo. He was 77.
Mr. Ernsberger worked for the Henry County highway department for 12 years, until his retirement in 1982, and prior to that for the former Fred Creager and Sons Co., a contractor here.
Mr. Ernsberger operated graders, loaders, backhoes, and blacktop machines, his son Ronald said.
He was a skilled carpenter who built two family homes here, his son added.
He saw action in North Africa and Italy as an infantryman in World War II.
A native of Continental, O., where he grew up, Mr. Ernsberger followed his parents, Sam and Maggie, to Henry County after the war and remained.
He enjoyed fishing Lake Erie and the Maumee River, and always was available to offer a helping hand, his son said.
'If somebody needed help or if there was something he could do for somebody, he was always right there. It didn’t matter if it was day or night, Saturday or Sunday.'
Surviving are his wife, Mary; daughter, Sue Dishop; son, Ronald; sister, Mary Ernsberger; brother, Glen; stepsons, Robert and Gary Young; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center, where the body will be after 7 p.m. today.
The family requests tributes to the American Cancer Society or Colton, O., United Methodist Church.
