Mary Ellen Decker, daughter of Jacob and Julia Lantz, was born at Carey, Ohio, April 29, 1850, and died at her home in Liberty Center, Ohio, Friday morning, June 1st, 1923, at 9:15 A. M., aged 73 years, 1 month and 2 days.
Deceased was united in marriage with Elisha Decker on October 11, 1875. They have resided in Liberty Center for about 20 years, coming here from Napoleon, where they resided while Mr. Decker served two terms as sheriff of Henry county. Here Mr. Decker engaged in the tile manufacturing business, and on exhaustion of material he retired from this business, was elected marshal and street commissioner of the village, in which capacity he served for many years during which time Mrs. Decker conducted the hotel. On retiring from the hotel they moved to their home on Cherry street where Mrs. Decker died.
Mrs. Decker was an estimable woman, loved and highly respected by all who knew her and her death is a severe loss to the community. She was an earnest Christian lady, a faithful worker in the church, the Sunday school and an active member of the Women’s Foreign Missionary Society. Her deep moral character and high ideals were portrayed throughout her life. Sympathy, love and tender care were shown to friends and acquaintances alike, freely giving to those who were in need.
She is survived by her husband and three children: Mrs. Julia Aldrich of Wauseon; Dell and Bert Decker, both of Toledo. Two sisters are living: Mrs. Fannie Kratz, of Defiance: and Mrs. Rhodes of Jacksonville, Fla.
Her work has been well done and her influence everlasting.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. church, in Liberty Center, Sunday, June 3rd, Rev. S. Lee Whiteman officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in Young's Cemetery.
