Frank A. Daum, 86, of Defiance, who was a retired Civil engineer, died at 6:10 p.m. Monday in Defiance City Hospital after having been admitted at 2:25 p.m.
Mr. Daum was born in Henry county on Sept. 6, 1874, son of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Daum, and on Sept. 17, 1905 was married to Bessie W. Whiteman who died on Feb 16, 1959.
Surviving are a son, Frank S. Daum, Fort Wayne, and a sister, Mrs. Beryl Marvin, El Paso, Tex.
After he attended Tri-State College, Angola, he taught school for a time in Henry county and then joined the United States Reclamation Service and worked in western states where he studied and gained experience as an engineer.
He returned to Wood county where he was in the county engineering department from 1909 to 1911; was Henry county surveyor from 1911 to 1919, and then was an engineer with the Ohio Department of Highways from 1920 to 1929.
Mr. Daum next became superintendent on the CCC camp at Defiance, serving in that capacity from July of 1933 to June of 1940 when he was transferred to the Wood county camp.
From 1945 to 1951, he was deputy engineer in the office of Defiance county engineer, Wade L. Stever.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Napoleon Masonic lodge No. 256, Haley chapter No. 136 at Napoleon, and Defiance Commandery No. 30.
Friends may call at the Mansfield-Mast funeral home where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday by the Rev. Gerald E. Mallot of The Defiance College. The burial will be at Liberty Center.
