Charles H. Daum was born In Pleasant township, Henry county, Ohio, July 15, 1861. He was the son of George and Lucinda Daum and spent his boyhood days east of New Bavaria, Ohio. When about nine years of age he went to live with an older cousin at Ayersville, Defiance county, because the family was broken up by the death of his mother. In 1876 the family was reunited in Napoleon, O., and here he received his education. He later became associated with the late John G. Reiser in the firm of Reiser and Brown meat shop. Later he took up work at Ft. Wayne and then on the Wabash R. R. In 1881 he was united in marriage to an old school mate, Pauline Scherer and settled on his father’s farm in Liberty township. To this union were born two sons, Chas. Irvin and Geo. Wm., who with a granddaughter, Lucille, a brother and two sisters, F. A. and Mrs. George Kessler and Mrs. S. A. Palmer, and a host of friends, survive.
By persistent effort he and his wife obtained their farm home in Liberty township. The death of his wife in 1927 and the burning of his farm buildings a week later was a shock from which he never fully recovered. This with other troubles that came his way, in spite of all his sons and friends could do, caused his death April 28, 1930.
