William Henry Creager, son of Lewis and Barbara Creager, was born on February 7, 1860, in Fairfield County, Ohio. His childhood days were spent on a farm in his native county. On December 6, 1883, he was united In marriage with Miss Julia A. Pugh of Fairfield County. To this union were born three sons and two daughters. Until 1884 the deceased lived in Tarlton, Fairfield county, when he moved to Wood county, where he worked in the oil fields for six years. In 1900 he moved on a farm in Henry county near Hamler and later into Hamler itself. After fifteen years there he bought a farm north of Liberty Center, Ohio, where he and his wife lived for seventeen years. During this time he was in partnership with his sons Pearl and Fred doing road work. His health failing, he was forced to leave the farm and therefore moved to Liberty Center in 1932, where he and his faithful companion lived for two years. On Dec. 6, 1933, they observed their golden wedding anniversary.
For the past two years the deceased and his wife made their home with a daughter, Mrs. Chas. Johnson, in Bowling Green, Ohio. Since Nov. 4, 1935, the deceased has been helpless and bedfast as the result of a stroke. He died on October 21, 1936, at the home of his daughter Mrs. Johnson, at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 14 days. The deceased was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and for the past five years he has been a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Liberty Center, where he attended regularly until illness prevented him.
He leaves to mourn, his beloved wife and companion; three sons and two daughters, Harry of Hamler; Mrs. Hattie Johnson of Bowling Green; Mrs. Lena Robinson of Shamrock, Sask., Canada; Pearl and Fred of Liberty Center; twenty-eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, three sisters and one brother (five brothers and one sister preceded him in death), and a host of relatives and friends.
Services were held at the home of the daughter Mrs. Johnson in Bowling Green, Friday, October 23, at 12:45, and at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Liberty Center at 2 o’clock, the Rev. H. L. Krueckeberg officiating. Burial was made in Young's cemetery.
