Ruby Ethyl Creager, age 96, was born in Toledo, Ohio to Lyman B. and Ethyl Amelia (Redfield) Benskin on September 14, 1900 and departed this life on July 23, 1997 at the Henry County Hospital. Ruby’s mother died when Ruby was nearly 4, so she lived with her grandfather and grandmother Redfield until she was 13, then about a year with her aunt and uncle Jessie and Jim Conway and then with her aunt and uncle Della and Clarence Seymour until she married. On June 10, 1922, she was married to Ralph Earl Young. To this union a son, Ralph Junior was born. Ralph Earl died in 1923. On August 24, 1925, Ruby married Fred Ralph Creager. A son, Bruce Fredrick was born to this couple. Fred R. Creager died in 1960. In 1920 and 1921, Ruby was a school teacher in country schools in the Liberty Center area. Ruby made her residence in Liberty Center from 1925 until her death. However, from 1945 until 1993, she spent the winters in Florida. Ruby was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for nearly 70 years and a member of the Gleaners for nearly that long. She was a charter member of the Auxiliary of the Gilbert Baughman American Legion Post in Liberty Center.
She is survived by two sons, Ralph Junior (Jean) Creager of Liberty Center and Bruce Fredrick (Peg) Creager of Fort Myers Beach, FL. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Rodney Creager, Napoleon, OH, Cinda Creager, Napoleon, OH, Tim Creager, Fort Myers FL, Cheryl Houghtby, Adrian, MI, Mary Beth Slee, Liberty Center, OH and Julie Creager-Holdsworth, Valley Mills, TX. Seven great-grandchildren are also survivors.
Services will be held at the Wright Funeral Home Liberty Center, OH on Saturday, July 26, 1997 at 1:30 p.m. there will be visitation hours on Friday, July 25, 1997 from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. Interment will be in Young’s Cemetery, Liberty Center, OH. Memorials will be welcomed by the Friends of Liberty Center Library or the Liberty Center Fire Department.
