G. A. Crawford, a pioneer of Liberty township died at his home near this place Tuesday morning.
Mr. Crawford was born near Mt. Vernon, Knox county, Ohio, August 11, 1849, and at the time of his death April 11, 1933, was 83 years and 8 months of age. He was the youngest son of George and Jane Crawford, came with his parents to Henry county in the spring of 1858 and has been a resident of Liberty township since that time.
On Easter Sunday, 1870, Mr. Crawford united with St. John’s Reformed church in Liberty Center under the pastorate of Rev. Sandoe, and on May 31, 1871, he was united in marriage with Miss Jennie E. Knauss. Two children were born of this union, Lena M. and Charles K.
In earlier life Mr. Crawford was a school teacher and for twenty years taught the winter terms of district schools. After moving to Liberty Center he served two terms as mayor. He was tire first man to be made a Mason in Liberty Center Lodge F. & A. M. and joined the Chapter, Council and Commandry in 1878.
Alva Crawford was a thoroughly good man, citizen and Christian. He served as Deacon and then as Elder of St. John’s Reformed church for many years, was superintendent of the Sunday school for 18 years and for his faithful services God gave to him a long and useful life and then a crown of glory.
Funeral services will be held at the Reformed church Friday afternoon at 12:00 o’clock, sermon by the pastor, Rev. O. Stockmeier.
