Charles A. Crawford 68, operator of Crawford's Orchard and active in many local organizations, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 1978 in Toledo Hospital. He lived on Road U in Liberty Center.
He was born April 12, 1909, in Liberty Center, the son of Charles K. Crawford and Rella Weirich. He married Gertrude Murdock on August 31, 1940 and she survives.
The deceased was a graduate of Liberty Center High School and attended Ohio Northern University.
A farmer most of his life, he retired in 1972, to begin the operation of Crawford's Orchard in Liberty Center. He had operated the orchard up until his death.
He was a member of Liberty Center United Methodist Church, a Sunday School teacher and a former chairman of the Finance Committee of the church.
Active in local organizations, he donated land to and founded the Henry County Sportsman Club. He was also a member of the Henry County Historical Society and helped compile information in a book the group recently published.
He was a member of the Liberty Center Masonic Lodge, the Zonobia Shrine in Toledo, the Scottish Rite and the Scottish Rite 13th degree team. He was also a member of the Liberty Center Odd Fellow Lodge and a charter member ot the Liberty Center Rotary Cub, where he was past president, was a past board member of R.E.A. and a member of the Henry County Health Planning Board and served as vice-president of the Henry County Democratic Club.
Surviving, besides his wife, Gertrude, are one son, Dr. Gary Crawford, Toledo; two grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Harvey (Evelyn) Parker, Toledo, Mrs. Mary Ellen VanPatten, Liberty, Mrs. Ruth Desgrange, Liberty Center; and two brothers, George and Robert, both of Toledo.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 18, 1978 at the Liberty Center United Methodist Church with Kev. McClellan Nicholson officiating.
Croll-Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center was in charge of the arrangements, interment was made in Youngs Cemetery, Liberty Center.
