Charles Alva Crawford, 68, of County Road U, Route 1, Liberty Center, died Tuesday evening at Toledo Hospital.
He was born April 12, 1909, in Liberty Center, the son of Charles K. Crawford and Rella Weirich. He married Gertrude Murdock on August 31, 1940, and she survives.
The deceased was a retired farmer, retiring in 1972. Following retirement he operated the Crawford Orchard of Liberty Center, selling apples, peaches and Christmas trees. He was a member of Liberty Center United Methodist Church, a Sunday School teacher and a former chairman of the Finance Committee of the church. He was a member of the Liberty Center Masonic Lodge, the Zenobia Shrine in Toledo, the Scottish Rite, the Scottish Rite Degree Team, and the 32nd Degree Mason. He was also a member of the Liberty Center Odd Fellows Lodge, a charter member of the Liberty Center Rotary Club where he was past president, was a past board member of R.E.A., and a member of Henry County Historical Society. He donated land for and founded the Henry County Sportsman Club. He was a member of the Henry County Health Planning Board and served as vice-president of the Henry County Democratic Club.
Surviving, besides his wife, Gertrude, are one son, Dr. Gary Crawford, Toledo; two grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Harvey (Evelyn) Parker, Toledo, Mrs. Mary Ellen VanPatten, Liberty Center, and Mrs. Ruth Desgrange, Liberty Center; and two brothers, George and Robert, both of Toledo.
Friends may call at Croll-Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center, after 7 p.m. on Thursday and anytime on Friday. Masonic services will be held Friday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will be taken to the Liberty Center United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Liberty Center United Methodist Church with Reverend McClellan Nicholson officiating.
Interment will be held in Young Cemetery, Liberty Center.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Liberty Center United Methodist Church.
