Pearl P. Clapp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Nicholas of near Portage, Wood county, O., was born Aug. 8, 1889, and departed this life on Dec. 16, 1954, at the age of 65 years, four months and eight days, giving her own testimony of being ready to meet her God, after suffering from illness and many misfortunes in her recent months.
Though many times it appeared she would not survive her misfortunes, yet by her unconquerable integrity she always had hopes of recovering and would say: "I'll make it all right.”
Pearl was a kind mother, an extremely hard working woman who would much rather inconvenience herself than be to anyone a bother. She was a member of the Victory Chapel United Brethren church. In recent months she spent most of her time visiting with her children but always left the impression “There is no place like home.”
On Jan. 14, 1909 she was married to Charles Wells Clapp of Liberty Center, O., and the two together set out in life earning their livelihood by farming. In their lives many problems and difficult times prevailed, yet they were successful.
To this union were born seven children: Mrs. Martha Rearick of Delta, O.;Mrs. Bernice Dean of Plain City, O.; Theodore Clapp of Maumee, O.; Mrs. Elsie Ballard of Liberty Center, and three other children, Richard, Robert and Charles Clapp, all of whom preceded their parents in death.
Charles Wells Clapp, husband of Mrs. Pearl Clapp, preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 1943.
She leaves precious memories to three brothers and three sisters: Charles LeRoy Nicholas of Chino, Cailf.; Claude T. Nicholas of Toledo, O.; Sam Nicholas of Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Edith Calsacy of Pomona, Calif.; Mrs. Leota Ford of Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Hazel Smith of Toledo. There are also ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
