Richard D. Carpenter, 69, of Titusville, Fla., died Friday, July 24, 2009, after a long illness. He was born Jan. 19, 1940, in Liberty Center, Ohio, to Randall and Josephine (Whitmire) Carpenter.
He married Jannis Carter on March 4, 1961, and had three daughters, Dawn (Sidney) Gamo of Texas, Michelle (Doug) Futch and Debbie (Tim) Self of Florida; grandchildren, Noah, Levi, Ricky, Stephani, Cory and Brittany.
He married Roberta Haynes on Dec. 21, 1984, and had one step son, Brent Haynes and one step granddaughter, Trinity.
He graduated from Liberty Center High School in 1957 and Defiance College in 1963, where he played football for four years. He was in education for 10 years in Ohio and Florida. He was a 20-year employee of Brevard County. He loved politics and was an avid Democrat.
Richard is survived by his wife, Roberta, all his children and grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Robert (Mary Lou), Roger (Corene), Ray (Carol) of Liberty Center and Ronald (Carol) of Perrsyburg; sisters, Janet (Charles) Hill, Joan (Terry) Davis of Liberty Center, Judy (Dennis) Loar of Wauseon, Joyce (William) Pacak of Delta and Jean (Larry) Gerhart of Auburn, Ind.; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at Victory Chapel, Liberty Center, Ohio, on Saturday, Aug. 8 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Young Cemetery in Liberty Center.
