Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Walker Mortuary, Napoleon, for Roy M. Carpenter, 77, a retired Liberty Center farmer, who died Thursday in Heller Memorial Hospital. The Rev. Donal Fredrick, former pastor, of Auburn, Ind., and the Rev. Paul Cairl, pastor of Liberty Chapel U.B. Church, officiated at the services and interment was in Young Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Gertrude; three sons, Randall and Elmer, Rt. 1, Liberty Center, and Lowell, of Euclid, O.; two daughters, Mrs. Doran Haley, Maumee, and Mrs. Clifford Kern, Liberty Center; a sister, Mrs. Imo Clapp, Napoleon; 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Roy Monroe Carpenter, son of Lillian and Robert Carpenter, was born Aug. 6, 1887, in Liberty Township. He lived most of his life on the farm, 2 1/2 miles north of Liberty Center which his grandfather cleared and settled in 1848.
His first eight years of school he attended at Reed and finished the remaining four at Liberty Center High School, where he played on one of the first football teams there.
He was saved as a boy and at that time attended Victory Chapel U.B. Church. During his illness he again made peace with his God.
On June 1, 1912, he was united In marriage with Gertrude Meyer. To this union were born three sons and two daughters.
He was a well known farmer and was also engaged In the stock business until 1942, when he entered the General Electric Co. in Ft. Wayne, Ind., where he worked until his retirement.
In 1962 he and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, where a host of relatives and friends came for the happy occasion.
Roy made friends wherever he went and was a great outdoors man. He spent much of his time since retirement hunting and fishing.
He became ill six weeks ago at his home in Liberty Center where he had resided for the past 19 years. He departed this life Thursday, March 11, 1965 at the age of 77 years, seven months and five days at Heller Memorial Hospital, after being admitted three weeks before.
He leaves to mourn, his wife, Gertrude, three sons, Randall and Elmer of Liberty Center, and Lowell of Euclid; two daughters, Mrs. Doran Haley of Maumee and Mrs. Clifford Kern of Liberty Center; a sister, Mrs. Imo Clapp of Napoleon; 23 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren.
