Mrs. Gertie Sophia Carpenter, 82, Liberty Center, died Monday at her home.
She was born January 25, 1893 in Freedom Township, Henry County, the daughter of Christ and Cecilia (Yarnell) Meyer. She married Roy Carpenter on June 1, 1912 and he preceded her in death March 11, 1965.
The deceased received a teaching certificate from Oxford University in Oxford, Ohio and taught in the Reed and Bell Schools in Henry County.
She was a 50 year member of the Victory Chapel United Brethren in Christ Church, Liberty Center, a member of the church’s mission society of which she served as president for many years.
Surviving are two daughters, Doran (Donna) Haley, Woodbury, Tennessee, and Mrs. Clifford (Cecilia) Kern, Liberty Center; three sons, Randall and Elmer, Liberty Center, and Lowell, Euclid; 23 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Friends may call at the Croll-Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center, after 7 p.m. tonight (Tuesday).
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Victory-Chapel, Liberty Center, with Reverend Robert H. Miller officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 11 a m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Youngs Cemetery, Liberty Center.
The family suggest that memorials may be made to the church building fund.
