Elmer H. Carpenter
June 6, 1921-March 12, 2006
Elmer Harry Carpenter, 84, of Liberty Center died Sunday at Lake Park, Sylvania.
Born June 6, 1921, in Liberty Center, he was the son of Roy and Gertie Sophia (Meyer) Carpenter. On Nov. 16, 1941, he married Janice Ross, who preceded him in death March 29, 1997. On Aug. 30, 2000, he married Kathryn “Kate” (Bureau) Jennings, who survives.
A member of the United States Navy, he served in the Philippines during World War II. He was the owner of Clapp & Haney Tool Co., Whitehouse, and worked as a tool maker until his retirement in 1978. In 1988, he sold the business to his sons. A lifetime member of Victory Chapel United Brethren in Christ Church, Liberty Center, he was a former board member. He was also a member of the National Tool and Die Makers Assoc., National Federation of Independent Businesses and the Liberty Center Boosters.
He is also survived by two daughters, Andrea Mendiola of Tallahassee, Fla., and Annette (Joe) Braden of Perrysburg; three sons, Michael (Marianne) of Holland, Keith (Brenda) of Whitehouse and Kenneth (Robin) of Liberty Center; a sister, Cecelia (Kip) Kern of Liberty Center; a step daughter, Nancy Spahn; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three step grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Donna Haley; two brothers, Lowell and Randall; and a grandchild.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Victory Chapel United Brethren In Christ Church with pastors Don Schiewer and Steve Clymer officiating. Interment will follow at Youngs Cemetery, Liberty Center.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center.
