Vera Burgoon, 87, formerly of Liberty Center, died Sunday at Maple Tree Inn Nursing Home, Swanton.
Born in Liberty Center on Oct. 4, 1898, she was the daughter of Marian and Cora (Graffice) Weakley. She married Ivan Burgoon and he preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 1943.
She was a teacher for one year at Old Bonnell School in Liberty Center, she then worked at the Meat Locker in Liberty Center. From 1948-1954 she operated the Corner Kitchen Resturant in Liberty Center. She was a correspondent for the Northwest Signal and the Liberty Press and was a member of the Liberty Center United Methodist Church and its Matron’s Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Jean Kern and Marilyn Walborn, both of Swanton; a sister, Josephine Bowers, Napoleon; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, K. C. Weakley, and a sister, Eleanor Stickles.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Croll-Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center, with Rev. Isaac Johnston officiating. Interment will be in Young Cemetery, Liberty Center.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Tuesday and after 2 p.m. Wednesday.
