Edna Belle Bryan, 95, of Liberty Center, died Friday, Feb. 2 in Northcrest Nursing Home, Napoleon.
She was born July 20, 1905 in Liberty Center, the daughter, of Charles P. and Myrtle (Holford) Hoffman. She married Jett Clayton Bryan on Feb. 12, 1927 and he died Dec. 14, 1980.
Mrs. Bryan taught eight years in a country school in Washington Township, Henry County, and worked in a post office in a hardware store at Reynolds Corners in Toledo for 12 years. She then went back to the University of Toledo and then substituted at various schools in Adams Township. Mrs. Bryan attended Bowling Green Normal School, summer sessions and received her degree. She finished her teaching career at Crissey Elementary School, Holland. She also was co-owner, with her husband, of Bryan's Cash and Carry Grocery Store in Liberty Center during World War II.
Mrs. Bryan was a member of the Liberty Center United Methodist Church, the Henry County Retired Teachers Association, a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Liberty Center, a former member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association and a former member and past matron of the Liberty Center Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving are, a nephew, Lloyd LaPlante, of Wonder Lake, Ill.; and nieces, Hilda Spiess, of Liberty Center and Virginia Beck, of Maumee.
She was preceded in death by a foster daughter, Christine Cunningham; a sister, Irene LaPlante; and an infant brother.
Services were held Monday, Feb. 5 in the Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center, with Rev. Martin Denes, of the Liberty Center United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was in Youngs Cemetery, Liberty Center.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Liberty Center United Methodist Church or the Liberty Center Library.
