W. C. BROWN DIES; WAS GROUP SECRETARY OF NATIONAL FIRE

Will Carlton Browne, secretary of the companies of the National Fire Croup of Hartford, died at Hartford hospital.
Mr. Browne was one of the best informed men in the country on the technicalities of fire insurance underwriting and rating and was active on a number of association committees concerned with those problems.
He was born Nov. 6, 1882, in Liberty Center, O., and was educated in Indianapolis, Ind.
He hed been away from his office for a month and entered Hartford hospital 10 days ago. He made his home at 1105 Farmington Ave., West Hartford.
One of Mr. Browne’s first positions in fire insurance was as one of the the staff that re-rated St. Joseph. Mo., for the Missouri Inspection Bureau in 1911. In 1913, he continued this work in Arkansas, and in 1916 was named in charge of the Kansas City office of the Bureau. He resigned that position in 1919 to join the Western Sprinklered Risk association in Chicago.
Mr. Browne became state agent for the National in West Virginia in 1923 and was transferred to the home office in Hartford as superintendent of its improved risk department in 1926.
He was elected assistant secretary of the companies in February, 1929, and secretary in February, 1934.
Mr. Browne wa a member of the Wampanoag Country Club. His hobby was growing and cultivating flowers.
He married the former Miss Tina M. Meehan, Oct. 15, 1923, whom he leaves. He also leaves a sister, Miss Jessie Browne, in Liberty Center, O.
The funeral was held Friday at 2 p. m. at the James T. Pratt Company funeral chapel, 71 Farmington Ave.
