William James Bowers, son of Jay and Jennie Meek Bowers, was born near Tontogany, O., on the 9th day of January, 1880, and departed this life in the Wauseon hospital on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1947, aged 66 years, 11 months land 30 days.
Mr. Bowers came with his parents to Henry county as a small child where the family resided near Liberty Center. Mr. Bowers lived in and near Liberty Center practically all his life, except for two different occasions when he and Mrs. Bowers made two extended stays in California.
Mr. Bowers was united in marriage to Miss Vinnie Wolff of Washington township, Henry county, on March 20, 1901. Mr. and Mrs. Bowers adopted, as an infant, a foster son, George, who preceded them in death on Jan. 10, 1935.
About forty-five years ago Mr. Bowers took up the barbering trade, a profession he followed until two years ago when he sold his business and was interested in the monument business at the time of his death.
Because of his many years in business he gained a wide circle of acquaintances and friends. Besides his wife, Vinnie, he leaves the following half-brothers and sister: Mrs. Blanche Arnold of near Swanton; Albert Bowers, of Heelsburg, Calif.; Delos Bowers, of Liberty Center, and Lester [Bowers, of South Lyons, Mich.; also a foster grandson, George Jr. Bowers, of Liberty Center, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Jan. 12, at 2 o'clock at the Reformed church in Liberty Center, Rev. McCandlish officiating. Burial was made in Young’s cemetery.
