OBITUARY
Death has again come among us. Yea, even in our home and laid his icy hand one one whom we dearly love, claiming for his own, Gladys Irene Bortel, daughter of Charles and Emma Bortel.
She was born near Liberty Center, O., August 21, 1908. After much suffering which she bore with patience, death came, taking her from our midst to her future home on November 11, 1930, in Toledo, O., where she had been taken for medical aid. The length of her stay here on earth being 22 years, 2 mos., and 21 days.
Gladys was a graduate of Liberty Center High school in the class of ’26, and for the past two and one-half years has been employed by the American National Wheel Company, Perrysburg, O. Sorrow and mourning was keenly felt among her many friends. Her sun went down while it was yet day, at least it seemed so to us, but she has gone to be in the presence of her God who Is too good to be unkind, and too wise to err. She was a kind and obedient daughter, and to know her was to love her. She was a member of the Reform Sunday School.
There is a time when man’s strength falls and human love can do no more, but we must stand helpless in the presence of death and see our loved ones pass to the Great Beyond.
Gladys is the first of the family to answer death's call, and those left to mourn are: father, mother, 2 sisters and 1 brother, Mrs. Howard Proudfoot, Wauseon, O., Ruby and Robert at home, 1 brother-in-law, Howard Proudfoot, 3 little nieces, and a very close friend, Mr. Henry Sternaman, Bowling Green, O., other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the Reform Church on Thursday, November 13th, at 2:30 p. m, Rev. Walter Purdy officiated. Interment in Young's cemetery, at Liberty Center.
