Charles W. Bortel, eldest son of Wesley and Cenith Bortel was born in Grand Rapids township. Wood County, O., April 16, 1877. He departed this life at St. Vincent’s hospital June 7, 1945 at the age of 68 years, 1 month and 22 days. The early part of his life was spent on a farm near Grand Rapids. On Dec. 9, 1900 he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Rogge of Liberty Center and at this time he moved on his farm where he resided for the past 44 years. To this union were born four children, one daughter Gladys, preceeding him in death.
He leaves to mourn his wife, two daughters, Mabel Proudfoot, of Swanton and Ruby Biggins of Grand Rapids and one son Robert, of Liberty Center; two brothers, Ira, of Weston and Amil of Grand Rapids; one sister, Anna Franklin of Toledo and five grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon. June 10 at 2 p. m. at the residence, Rev. McCandlish officiating. Burial in Young’s cemetery, Liberty Center.
