Funeral services for Thomas Bichan, who died of a heart attack at his home in Liberty Center, will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Walker Mortuary in Napoleon. Rev. Frederick Haley will officiate, and burial will be in the Young Cemetery in Liberty Center.
Mr. Bichan died of a heart attack 11 p.m. Monday. He had suffered a previous heart attack Dec. 19 and had just returned home from Toledo Riverside Hospital Saturday.
He had been an automobile dealer in Liberty Center for 42 years. He started selling Overland cars around 1920 and later switched to Essex. He was awarded a Chevrolet franchise in 1930. He had been in business as Thomas Bichan Chevrolet at the present site since 1925. Last week his wife disclosed they were closing the doors of their agency at the end of this month.
Mr. Bichan, 69, was born in Kirkwall, Orkney Islands, Scotland, in 1892. He was the seventh son of nine boys and two sisters.
He had been an active member of the community. He was a veteran of World War I, chairman of the official board of the Methodist Church, a 32nd degree member of the Masonic Blue Lodge, a member of the Scottish Rite, Toledo; Knight Templar, Defiance; American Legion and VFW of Liberty Center.
He is survived by his wife, Neva; one daughter, Mrs. Montford Fischer, Jr., of Galion, O.; three brothers, Ernest of Hamler, Robert and Jack of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two sisters, Bella Bichan, London, England; Nan Bichan of Kirkwall, Scotland; and seven grandchildren.
