Henry M. Baker, 84, who served this village as a public official over a period of nearly a half century, died Friday at a Delta nursing home. Mr. Baker had been ill several weeks.
Services were held at the Methodist church at 2 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. David L. Eichar officiating.
Interment was made in Young’s cemetery, Liberty Center.
Mr. Baker was elected a member of the Liberty Center Board of Education in 1902 and was a member of the board when additions were built to the school system in 1911 and 1925. Mr. Baker also served eight years as a member of the Henry County Board of Education.
Mr. Baker had served several terms as mayor and council member. He went to work for the Wabash Railroad in 1889 and retired as a section foreman in 1931. He was a past roaster of the Masonic lodge here and also a member of the Knights of Pythias and Odd Fellows lodges.
Surviving are eight children: Mrs. Albert Hoff, Charles and Henry, Jr., all of Liberty Center; Mrs. Donald Zenz, Dearborn, Mich.; Granville Baker, Flat Rock, Mich.; Paul Baker, Adrian, Mich.; Mrs. Henry Johnson, Bowling Green, and Mrs. Joseph Norman, Columbus; also 22 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Cora Ort, Woodbum, Ind.; Mrs. Rosella Peters, Columbia City, Ind.; Mrs. Mary Lutz, Bronson, Mich.; three brothers, Albert, James, and Commodore, all of Woodburn, Ind., and a host of other relatives and friends.
